In the past, luxury packaging was those complex traditional materials, and now pulp packaging has become the new darling. This shift represents brands’ environmental awareness and is a way for high-end brands to pursue sustainable elegance. James Cropper’s Tailor Made service is at the forefront of this transformation, working with LVMH to take luxury pulp packaging to the extreme. Silk-like finish, almost comparable to the traditional luxury packaging, and packaging is 100% biodegradable, environmental protection and high-end, which can be said to be the quality of environmental protection packaging that consumers are pursuing in their hearts.

Not only that, the technology of pulp product customization has also improved, Stora Enso’s molding fiber technology, so that the complex design of the pulp material can not be done before, now can be realized. Their perfume packaging, in collaboration with Guerlain, features embodiments down to 0.1 mm, something previously only possible with high-quality plastic and metal. ‌

Not to be outdone, Swiss luxury watchmaker Patek Philippe has partnered with PulpWorks Inc. Together, we developed a watch case plug-in that protects the watch and is environmentally friendly. They use custom pulp packaging with a density gradient designed to absorb shock, and the unpacking experience is as premium as ever. ‌

The numbers speak for themselves. Molded Fiber Technology, a pioneer in luxury pulp packaging, reports that its pulp solution costs 30% less than traditional packaging and delivers 65% less weight. Tiffany & Co. tested it in Asia and saw a 22% increase in customer satisfaction. ‌

There are more innovative ones. Takeo has developed metal veneer pulp packaging that gives it a luxurious sheen without metal components. This technique was used in the packaging of Chanel’s holiday collection, which relied purely on microstructure to create a rainbow of colors, and the effect was stunning. ‌

Customization is also getting stronger. Dell’Orto Packaging now offers pulp packaging that can be embedded with an NFC chip for authentication, maintaining biodegradability while also being counterfeit-proof. Fine wine producer Chateau Margaux has already used this technology and has directly reduced the number of counterfeit attempts in the Grand Garden series by 40%. ‌

This illustrates the evolution of luxury packaging, where sustainability and premium quality do not conflict at all. Brands continue to innovate, and pulp packaging is now the go-to choice for conscious luxury consumers, who don’t want to compromise on quality or environmental responsibility. ‌
